HR management or human resources management (HRM) is a function within organization that has vital duty and responsibility. This management focuses on the management of people, who work in the organization. The management is including HR strategy building, recruitment, providing direction to the employees regarding company culture, talent development program, and more. All process and programs that link to human resources are part of HR management.

HR management is vital function within organization because human power is one important key in determining company outcome. A strong human power will increase productivity and help the growth of company while poor human power will never able to the jobs and resulting failure. If HR management could not create strong human power, it will lead to the weakening of the company.

The power of human comprises both physical and intellectual power. One of the goals of HR management is combining and optimizing physical and intellectual power. HR team does it by recruiting the right talents, training, developing the talents to fill the right position within the company, deal with compensation, and deal with all problems and issues that may arise regarding people in the company. In order to meet the objectives, HRM department should create strategic human resource plan that aligned with company business strategy.

In recruiting new talents, HR team should know the needs within the company to decide recruitment’s requirements, standard, and process. In some case, the recruitment starts in entry level with fresh graduate as the target and in the other case, the recruitment may take middle and high level with experienced people to hunt. The standard could be average but sometime it could be so high when important roles should be filled. The process of recruitment may typical with application, tests, and interview while in other cases; the HR team may choose to scout potential talent.

In most recruitment, especially the entry and middle level, HR management will give training program in order to give the new recruits understanding to company culture, vision, and mission. Then, HR management is responsible in employee development and retention of superior employees to increase company’s human power by providing various training programs and rewards.

HR management is also responsible for succession planning within the company. It starts with recruiting superior talents and continues by preparing them to be ready to fill key roles in the company that could open in the future. Succession planning is imperative because it involves very important roles that not only require capable personnel, but also require loyalty.

HR department is the leader in HR management but HRM function may also performed by other parties, especially line managers of various departments who responsible for the engagement, contribution, and productivity of the employees. The managers may take part in recruitment, development, and retention of superior employees.

In recent trends, HR department also takes part in keeping the company and the employer safe from workplace chaos and lawsuits. Although they focus on human resources issues, they also need to take action to balance the organization and serve all stakeholders, including owners, employees, managers, executives, stockholders, and customers.
